What is personal branding?

Personal branding is a grand term for something that's really quite simple.

It's the process of expressing and amplifying who you really are.

Getting to know your unique contribution, who will benefit from it, and how you will deliver it.

And most important of all, why it's important to you to be doing this work.

But while it's simple to state of all this, it's most certainly not easy to answer these questions.

In fact it can be a soul searching process to do the work of uncovering your purpose.

Is anyone fascinated by the idea of personal branding as a tool for self expression?

If so, I would like to hear from you, I have an idea for a project that I'd love your help with. Please comment below or message me privately.

Introvert or extrovert?

Are you an introvert or an extrovert, or does it depend on the situation?

Most people would say that I'm an extrovert, and most of the time I would agree.

On the other hand, I'm quite happy to spend time at home, especially after I've been travelling, to re-energise.

I love to be warm, cosy, surrounded by my family, and to run my business from my laptop.

Sometimes I even feel quite reluctant to leave the house, like this morning, for instance as I travel to an event in London.

At times like this I have to give myself a gentle push for I know how much I love to network with new people in a high vibe environment and that I'll be absolutely in my element today.

Which do you prefer, and have you set up your business for a lifestyle that suits your personality? Or would you like to?

Be irresistibly you!

Showing up online is vital for business these days, but it can be so scary. Where do you even start with knowing what to say and where to say it, let alone posting photos of yourself?

I know, because I felt the same when I first started building my business online a few years ago. I struggled with every post, anxiously checking for comments afterwards.

I could have given up but I persevered because I was determined to create a global business, even though I knew I preferred to network in person.

After all, I was the networking queen, loving the buzz of meeting new people. And of course I still do, in fact I'm going to an event tomorrow.

But it was only when I shifted my mindset and decided to believe that I could enjoy engaging online that I grew to love it so much, and began to attract clients. Just by being me and saying what I believed.

And you can do the same, if you are willing to shift your thinking. I'd love to hear from you if you've had the same experience or if you are fearful of being seen online. Comment below or send me a private message, if you prefer!

What makes you come alive?

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." Howard Thurman

What makes YOU come alive? What are you most passionate about in your business, and does your audience feel your passion too?

Branding yourself is one of THE most effective ways to capture your unique essence and infuse your work with your personality. It's a brilliant way to express yourself consistently and authentically, to show that you are aligned with your message.

It's also a powerful way to build your reputation, your influence and your impact. Being knowledgeable is no longer enough, you have to present yourself as the whole package.

Are you READY to step up and increase your influence and impact? If so, I would love to hear from you!

My theme for the year

A couple of weeks into the new year, and already I feel a change in energy. Following all the dramatic events of 2016, experienced both personally and globally, I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility, but I'm also bursting with excitement as I wonder what is in store for this year. I wonder whether you feel it too?

I feel compelled to put an end to my perfection and procrastination, to get out there and 'be the change'. I believe there is no time to waste; that it's our time to rise up as our authentic selves, to claim our space in the world, to step up and be visible. And to shine out lights brilliantly.

I've been deliberating on my theme for the year, and I've finally settled on 'authenticity'. For I believe that being more visible and being the change in the world is best done with authenticity, passion and style. I've realised that it's one of my deepest values and this year more than ever I want to help others to be authentic in business, from the inside out.

Getting back in my flow

This summer has been all about getting back in my flow following the devastating loss of my beautiful mother. It felt as though my position in the world had shifted, because it had. At times I felt dizzy and disorientated. Time lost all meaning and my greatest comfort came from simply being rather than doing, enjoying the sunshine and spending time with family and old friends. My siblings were simply amazing, and together we pulled through. Travel plans were cancelled, projects were put on hold, it was such a surreal time. Finally, we escaped to Cyprus in early September, and getting away was just what we needed. Our lives are beginning to return to normal.

My mother was a talented painter and stained glass artist, who followed her passion and returned to art college once her fifth child had started school, attending the prestigious St Martin's College. She was the one who taught me to follow my passions, to connect with my creative genius and to embrace my uniqueness. She also taught me to love the finer things in life, as we spend time together in perfume halls and department stores. Selfridges in London was our favourite. She taught me about self love and respect, and always said that I deserved only the best of everything. Since I was the eldest daughter we spend so much time together when I was younger, exploring galleries and attending private views, critiquing sculptures and laughing about paintings. An art tour to Madrid when we were both university students holds the key to some of my fondest memories.

I feel comforted that in our parting moments I promised to carry on her creative legacy and to have an impact on hundreds, thousands, millions, with my work. I promised to follow my purpose, which is to inspire others to shine brilliantly, to help them to become fulfilled through their own creative expression and to enable them to reach their grandest vision. And having made that promise, I feel more fired up than ever about my life's mission.

Be different

I was so excited to visit Chanel's Mademoiselle Privé exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London last week, just before it ended. It was a very popular and prestigious event with long queues so we had to be patient, but it was definitely worth the wait. The setup was unusual, unlike any exhibition that I've been to before, as each gallery space was based on a different theme or 'experience' of Chanel. From the exquisite fashion displays to the brand symbolism, from the jewellery displays to the embroidered detailing on her garments, each display was an experience in its own right, and seemed to capture the very essence of Coco Chanel.

Coco Chanel's chic style and elegance have been a source of inspiration to me for a long time, and some of you will know that I recently had a photo shoot on the famous Chanel staircase in her house at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. As well as the fact that she ignored so many of the rules for women's fashion in her day, most appealing to me about the brand is the clean lines, simplicity, monochromatic style and elegance.

However, the area that had the greatest impact on me was the Chanel No.5  room. The space experiments with the alchemy of the revolutionary and mysterious composition of the famous scent. The experience for me was quite surreal as the scents evoked memories from my childhood, fleeting glimpses in my mind of visits to Selfridges with my mother and of meeting up with my very glamorous grandmother at the perfume hall.

In all, the exhibition emphasised to me the importance of creating an incredible experience when working with your clients, particularly when working one to one. Personally, I believe that an uplifting and high vibrational environment is crucial for my clients for the work that I do to expand their awareness of what is possible in life and in business.

Forever changed!

I am forever changed! Early last year, after so much questioning and soul searching, I made the decision to change direction professionally, and began to invest in my professional development. It was not an easy decision to change tack professionally and focus on coaching, but with my children reaching the next stage and with my ambition burning deeper than ever before, I knew it was my time. Time to broaden my horizons, shift my mindset, get qualified and deepen my business and coaching skills. Not long after I decided to take a leap and enrol in Gina DeVee's Academy - and I have not looked back.

From the moment I joined I realised that the programme could have been created just for me. From the personal mastery and wealth consciousness programming to the business and marketing teaching, and of course the coaching practicuum and certification. The personal development side was so much deeper than I expected and I was constantly growing and stretching my comfort zone. Gina DeVee has been the most inspiring mentor and I am forever changed as a result of this process.

Best of all was being part of a community of 200 like minded women entrepreneurs from around the globe, some of whom have become my best friends as we've travelled around the world together to the live events, in style of course. To Miami, Sydney, Paris and finally to our graduation in Los Angeles, our journey together has been profound. I am now enrolled on the fast-track Business Mastery programme and have just returned from an incredible week in the exquisite setting of Villa Cora in Florence.
